The Ministry of the Environment has issued an approval to investigation areas at all 7 candidate sites

The Ministry of the Environment has responded positively to an application by the Repository Authority (SÚRAO) concerning the identification of investigation areas at all seven localities with the 1. stage of the aim of assessing suitability for the construction of a deep repository for the disposal of radioactive waste. Once the decision comes into force, the communities concerned will be authorised to claim the relevant statutory funds which amount of almost CZK 72 million annually for all the sites.

No Opposition ‘In Principle’ Towards Deep Geological Repository in France, Says Andra

6 Feb (NucNet): A panel from France’s Commission Nationale du Débat Public (National Commission for Public Debate; CNDP) has said it is not “in principle” against the Cigéo national deep geological repository project, the National Agency for the Management of Radioactive Waste (Andra) has said.

Position of the Radioactive Waste Repository Authority on the decision of the Minister for the Environment concerning the investigation area at the Kraví hora locality

At the end of December 2013 progress was made in terms of tackling the issue of the identification of the investigation area for the Kraví hora locality. Mr Tomáš Podivínský, the Minister of the Environment, annulled his original decision of May 2013 on the identification of the investigation area and returned it for further consideration. According to the Minister, the reason for the return consisted of comments which were put forward by the Appeals Commission not being sufficiently considered by the Ministry of the Environment when formulating the original decision.

The German parliament has passed a law which begins the formal procedure for a site to be found for a national repository for the country’s high-level radioactive waste.

ONDRAF/NIRAS officially submits licence application for Category A Waste disposal facility to FANC

ONDRAF/NIRAS, the Belgian National Agency for Radioactive Waste and Enriched Fissile Materials, has submitted the licence application for the surface disposal facility for Belgian Category A waste to the Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC) 31 January 2013. This brings ONDRAF/NIRAS one step closer to constructing and operating the disposal facility in Dessel. It is the first milestone of a phased licensing programme, with the objective of a safe repository in the short and long term.
