The Radioactive Waste Repository Authority signs a memorandum of mutual cooperation with the Italian company SOGIN
On 17 March 2016 an Italian-Czech business forum was held at the Žofín hall in Prague focusing on defence, aviation, cyber protection, electronics, nuclear technology and radioactive waste management. During the forum the Czech Defence Minister Martin Stropnický met with the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Paolo Gentiloni Silveri.
SÚRAO, the Czech Radioactive Waste Repository Authority, has unveiled to the general public the various survey methods that will be applied at all seven selected potential sites for the development of the Czech deep geological repository for spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. The inhabitants of the municipalities involved were presented with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the details of the planned geological survey work.
Financial contributions for geological survey work improves the quality of life at a number of municipalities
Municipalities in the seven locations selected by the Radioactive Waste Repository Authority for geological survey work concerning a future deep geological repository are currently addressing the issue of how to use the money received from the nuclear account. According to the Atomic Act, in excess of CZK 72 million may be used for investment in the community thus enhancing the quality of life of local residents.
The unique Bukov PVP underground laboratory situated on level 12 of the Rožná underground mine was visited on Friday 8 January 2016 by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Jan Mládek, the Governor of the Vysocina region Jiri Behounek and the head of the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SUJB) Dana Drábová. The laboratory will, during the course of this year, launch a series of major research programmes focused on the safety of a future deep geological repository in the Czech Republic.
