RAWRA has joined the IGD-TP platform

The basic vision of the IGD-TP, a technological platform for the construction of a deep geological repository in the EU, is the commissioning by 2025 of the first deep geological repository for the disposal of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel in Europe.

RAWRA’s joining the IGF-TP technological platform represents an important step forward for the organisation in that it will reap benefits in terms of joint efforts for the construction of a deep geological repository on the European level and provide access to information on more advanced projects (Finland, Sweden and France) which will enhance RAWRA’s credibility as an organisation capable of developing a safe solution for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel particularly with regard to the fact that the deep geological repository concept adopted in the Czech Republic is based on the Scandinavian concept.

A reduction in the costs of the deep geological repository development programme is seen as a further potential advantage; it is expected that the platform will provide members with relevant and comprehensive information for practical use. Czech experts will have an opportunity to be actively involved in projects with international participation thus broadening their experience and knowledge to the advantage of the Czech DGR programme.

RAWRA was invited to join both the IGD-TP Executive Group and the SRA WG (the Strategic Research Agenda Working Group).
