RAWRA organises a round-table discussion

The formation of an independent working commission which will introduce greater transparency to the deep geological repository siting process and which will fully respect the interests of the general public.

A round-table discussion was held on Tuesday 22 June 2010 with a view to establishing an independent working commission which will operate with the support of both the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of the Environment.

The round-table discussion was open to representatives of communities in areas in which candidate repository sites are located and other stakeholders interested in the siting of a deep geological repository – the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry for Regional Development, the State Office for Nuclear Safety, the Radioactive Waste Repository Authority, local councils in areas in which candidate repository sites are located, non-governmental environmental organisations, radioactive waste producers (ČEZ) and the general public. Parliamentary representatives were invited and a sociologist was present in an expert capacity.

The main objective of the round-table meeting was to reach consensus on the rules and conditions within which the independent commission will operate.
