Richard (Litoměřice) Testing Facility
The testing facility provides for the testing of IP-2 and IP-3 industrial packages, A and B type packages and special form radioactive material meeting the requirements for the transport of class 7 dangerous goods.
The testing facility employs the working procedures and technical equipment to perform water spray tests (par.721 of ST-1, IAEA), free drop tests (par.722), stacking tests (par.723), penetration tests (par.724), drop tests I and puncture tests II (according to par.727a, b), crush tests III (par.727c), thermal tests (par.728) and immersion tests (par.729).
Containment system integrity and shielding (par.716.) is checked thoroughly, the former by means of the vacuum bubble leakage test (ISO9978 par.6.2.1).
The testing facility also employs the working procedures and technical equipment to provide impact tests (par.705), percussion tests (par.706), bending tests (par.707), heat tests (par.708) and for leaching assessment (par.710. and 711.). Whilst working procedures concerning leaching assessment will not be accredited, it is foreseen that the other working procedures outlined above will eventually be accredited.
The testing facility is not equipped for the enhanced immersion test (par.730) required for packages with activity higher than 105 A2 and type C packages nor is it equipped for testing packages with a weight of over 3.2 tonnes and a sample size of greater than 1.5x.1.5x1.5m.
